Former Alabama RB feels Tide defense is ‘unprepared’

Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia (2) runs the ball against Alabama Crimson Tide defensive lineman LT Overton (22) during the first half at FirstBank Stadium.

A lot of former players have voiced their frustration following Alabama football’s disappointing week six loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores.

The latest to do so is former Alabama running back and Heisman Trophy winner, Mark Ingram.

Ingram spent three seasons with the Alabama football program. He played under former Alabama head coach, Nick Saban, from 2008 to 2010. During his time in Tuscaloosa, Ingram was named a Unanimous All-American, a First-Team All-SEC selection, a BCS National Champion, and the 2009 SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Year.

Ingram provided his take on Alabama’s performance on the defensive side of the ball and gave the Alabama faithful a reason for concern on “The Triple Option podcast.”

“The defense is just completely just unprepared for this,” Ingram said. “Run it down your throat and make you like it. Come on now. They had nine possessions. They only punted the ball twice. Bama’s defense is in crisis mode right now. They’re in crisis mode. The last six quarters…67 points, 784 yards. Opponents are converting third downs at a 54 percent rate. They’ve allowed 10 20-yard plays. Like you thought that the second half of the Georgia game might have just been Georgia but no, that’s like truly who the defense is right now.”

In the last four quarters, Alabama has been outscored 67-46. That is a recipe for failure in the SEC. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see how the Crimson Tide respond following its loss to the Commodores.
