Why Alabama running backs feel their role is to be dynamic

Alabama football has always had its share of explosive and dominant running backs, both past and present.

This year’s rushing attack has the lightning and thunder combo of Justice Haynes and Jam Miller. Haynes and Miller have both been instrumental parts to Alabama’s success on offense, each averaging over four yards a carry, but their contributions are so much more.

Haynes elaborated on the role and responsibility of the Alabama running backs on offense in a podcast interview via the Crimson Tide Sports Network.

“I think the role of the running back is being dynamic” Haynes said. “As you’ve seen it so far in these first couple games, in empty, they’ll put us in the backfield. We have motions, we have different spots that we can get to different places and be able to use the running back, enhancing all of our abilities, not just running the ball. We talk about it all the time in the running back room, ‘It’s who you are without the ball in your hands..’ Whether that’s us blocking, whether that’s us running routes, you know doing anything we need to do to help the team.”

Haynes and Millers ability to block in pass protection, as well as catch the ball out of the backfield as receivers will be just as important as their performances on the ground moving forward as Alabama gets deeper in their season.
