The area on offense Kalen DeBoer feels Alabama needs ‘to grow’

The Alabama offense is looking to generate more of a rhythm in their run game between tailbacks, Jam Miller and Justice Haynes in their upcoming game against Tennessee on the road this week.

The backfield duo of Miller and Haynes combined for a mere 20 carries and 68 yards in their latest outing against South Carolina. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer was asked about the number of carries the Tide backs are getting per game and how this total could be increased.

“That number, I think we would love see that be higher,” DeBoer said. “And how come that numbers lower? I think it’s taken from some of J.Mill’s (Milroe’s) carries, which, how can you argue when you’re rattling off some of the runs he’s had. There’s that fine line using him and keeping him fresh, and using these other guys. I thought Jam and Justice ran very hard.“

DeBoer later went on to express his future intention for getting both tailbacks more involved, stating the importance of both Miller and Haynes to the Alabama offense.

“They are very critical to our offense,” DeBoer said. “They’re extremely athletic. They can do it all. They’re every-down backs in their own rights, that we need to continue to grow.”

The Alabama offense is now faced with the task of finding a more balanced diet of carries for both ball carriers Miller and Haynes. It will be interesting to see what this balance in the backfield looks like for Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama offense moving forward.
