ESPN CFB personality lays out why loser of Alabama vs. Tennessee is in trouble

The Third Saturday in October could have big implications for the loser of the Alabama versus Tennessee game, according to ESPN’s Paul Finebaum.

Finebaum made this apparent in his Friday morning rant on Getup ESPN when breaking down what a possible loss could do to the resumes of Tennessee or Alabama when evaluating either team for future seeding in the 2024 college football playoffs.

“I think the loser of this game is in really big trouble,” Finebaum said. “Let’s say Tennessee loses, they don’t have an impressive win any longer, because they beat Oklahoma and that didn’t amount to anything. So they have nothing on their resume so they’ll be in trouble. They also have a game at in November, which I cannot imagine them winning. Alabama’s in a little better shape if they lost. They go to LSU after where Brian Kelly has not lost a home game, so the loser of this game is in trouble. I think that’s putting it substantially.”

The potential fallout and magnitude of this game continue to loom large as the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide travel to Knoxville to face No. 11 ranked Tennessee Volunteers in a top-15 matchup, renewing their longtime rivalry Saturday afternoon at Neyland Stadium.
