Kalen DeBoer explains high number of targets for Ryan Williams vs. Tennessee

Alabama freshman WR Ryan Williams (#2) makes a catch in the Crimson Tide's scrimmage.

Ryan Williams was heavily targeted in Alabama football’s loss to Tennessee.

Williams finished the game 73 yards and one touchdown on eight receptions. He was targeted 20 times throughout the game. A reporter asked DeBoer does he feels Alabama was too reliant on Williams, and DeBoer said no.

“I think that some of them, there is an intentional element to making sure he’s part of the gameplan,” DeBoer said. “And then some of it was just the progressions and where it ended up. We just had a couple misses. We hit one or two of those, interception early in the game. We had a good little rhythm right there, and some of those hurt. But you have to have confidence in your players to continue to go back and go make the next play. We obviously have a lot of belief in every one of our players. He’s a guy that can go make those plays anytime. So, we got to continue to make sure he’s a strong part of the gameplan.”

Williams, DeBoer and Alabama will look to get back to work this week in preparation for Missouri.
