Alabama’s secondary has had its share of ups and downs this season but has an opportunity to make a statement in week nine against Missouri.
The Crimson Tide secondary has faced several good wide receivers this season. However, only a few teams that Alabama has faced have had multiple wide receivers challenge them.
Missouri’s offense is led by a trio of wide receivers — Luther Burden III, Theo Wease Jr., and Mookie Cooper. Burden III is projected to be one of the top wide receivers chosen in the 2025 NFL Draft. Through the first seven games of the season, Burden has recorded 37 receptions for 447 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Wease Jr. leads the team with 463 receiving yards. Cooper is a promising option as WR3 for the Tigers. He averages 19.6 yards per reception this season. In addition, Missouri quarterback Brady Cook does a great job of getting the ball to his playmakers and allowing them to do what they do best — make plays.
With Alabama losing starting safety Keon Sabb to a lower-body injury, it will be a great opportunity for Alabama’s secondary to make a statement this weekend. Players like King Mack and Bray Hubbard will be called upon to step up in his absence.
Alabama’s secondary will be put to the test early and often against an explosive Missouri offense. It would go a long way if the group can hold one of the best receiving cores in college football in check in week nine.
