Alabama OC Nick Sheridan discusses importance of countering LSU’s pass-rush

Alabama OC Nick Sheridan signaling gestures to the Crimson Tide during 2024 spring practice.

Alabama football is aware its offensive line will be tested when it lines up across from LSU’s stout defensive front this weekend in Tigers Stadium.

The Crimson Tide’s offensive line comes into this pivotal SEC with 17 sacks and 47 tackles for loss allowed through eight games. LSU carries a top 10 defense in college football for sacks.

Alabama’s offensive coordinator, Nick Sheridan met with media Monday to address the importance of combating LSU’s disruptive front seven ahead of the Tide’s upcoming matchup.

“Yeah, I mean, certainly, they’re very disruptive,” Sheridan said. “I think that jumps off the film. The production of the front seven players, both the edges, linebackers, interior players. They’ve had a lot of success that way. And I think the way that you try to counter that is similar no matter who you’re going against. It’s to try to stay out of those obvious passing situations where they really can pin their ears back and rush. So being efficient and effective on first and second downs will really be important. Staying out of third and long situations will be important. I think that’s the case anytime you’re playing a very disruptive front, is to stay in situations that make you unpredictable, as far as run and pass and what you’re trying to accomplish. So making that we’re balanced and staying out of some of those situations where it’s friendly for good pass rushers, I think that’s will be important for us.”

Sheridan and the Alabama offensive coaching staff now have the task of crafting a game plan that annihilates the consistent threat of a talented LSU Tigers defensive front.
