ESPN College Football Playoff expert tells where Alabama stands ahead of first CFP rankings reveal

Will McLelland - USA TODAY Sports

The University of Alabama football team is still alive to get into the 12-team College Football Payoff.

ESPN unveils its first CFP rankings Tuesday night, and CFP expert Heather Dinich detailed to everyone about why it should not count out Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide. Alabama suffered two losses before November for the first time since 2007, but it has a chance to make a huge statement to the CFP Committee with a victory over LSU this weekend. The Tide has an impressive win over Georgia and Vanderbilt now looks as a quality loss on Alabama’s schedule with it ranked in the top 25 at No. 24.

DeBoer’s group had a close win over South Carolina, yet the Gamecocks pulled an upset victory over Texas A&M last week.

According to Dinich, she has the Tide in the 12-team playoff with the first ranking reveal.

“I will throw 2-loss Alabama back into the conversation,” Dinich said Tuesday. “The Tide is one of the top teams in ESPN’s strength of record metric and by the way they now have a loss to a bowl-eligible Vanderbilt team, which certainly does not look as bad as it did that day. It also has one of the best wins in the country against Georgia. So, don’t count out the Tide. I would actually count them in.”

We will see where the Tide stands in the first-ever 12-team CFP rankings reveal.
