He had a happy moment from his childhood surface in a media availability period, but Garrett Nussmeier has to now flush that memory and create a new one of his own.
The Louisiana native is the son of former Alabama offensive coordinator, Doug Nussmeier.
Garrett watched his father coach AJ McCarron and the Crimson Tide’s offense to a 21-17 thrilling victory over Louisiana State University at Tiger Stadium and a BCS National Championship over Notre Dame and then Fighting Irish head coach, Brian Kelly.
He enjoyed watching his dad’s success, but the young Nussmeier has a chance to rip away Alabama’s College Football Playoff hopes inside “Death Valley” in Baton Rouge, La. Kelly witnessed Nussmeier bring up his childhood memory this week, but the head coach had one message for his signal-caller and he shared it in Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference to the media.
“Yeah, he’s brought it up,” Kelly said. “And I told him to shut up, and not to bring it up again. Because the next time, we’re going to be on the field together, we’re going to be holding it together.”
Who are Alabama most impactful players ahead of LSU matchup?
Kelly wants Nussmeier focused on ending the Crimson Tide’s postseason dreams, while continuing every national championship opportunity for the Tigers. Kelly is still steaming from his 14-42 embarrassing defeat at the hands of Alabama in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game as Notre Dame’s coach. We will see how everything turns out Saturday in this matchup.
