Alabama football is now on path to possibly make the SEC Championship game en route to a possible College Football Playoff berth after Tennessee lost to Georgia.
To keep it simple, if Alabama wins out and every other team favored to win over the next two weeks does so, it is highly likely Alabama is in. The Crimson Tide are currently 8-2 and 4-2 in the SEC. They now have multiple paths to the game.
They will have to win out regardless to make the SEC Championship.
If they win out, it is very likely they will be involved in a tie with multiple teams.
Those teams could likely be Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia, Ole Miss or Tennessee. If the Bulldogs, Rebels and Vols win out, it could be a multiple-team tie between them, Alabama and the loser of the Texas A&M and Texas game.
The Aggies and the Longhorns will have to win their next SEC games against Auburn and Kentucky to set this scenario up. They both are favored in those matchups. In the likelihood of this scenario, the Crimson Tide would be predicted to face the winner of Texas A&M-Texas in the SEC Championship based on conference winning percentage. The only thing that keeps Alabama out the game is if Missouri loses to both Mississippi State and Arkansas to complete the season. A Tennessee loss to Vanderbilt would also put Alabama in the game.
It was kind of unthinkable Alabama would make the game several weeks ago. This season proves the SEC without divisions will be a wild ride for years to come.
