Alabama’s defense is led by two veteran linebackers in Deontae Lawson and Jihaad Campbell. However, there is another veteran linebacker that continues to provide valuable depth and improve in Kane Wommack’s ‘SWARM’ defense.
That is senior Justin Jefferson. The former junior college standout has been a key player on the defensive side of the ball this season for the Crimson Tide. In eight games, Jefferson has tallied 40 tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble.
He is often overlooked by other Alabama veteran defenders. However, his impact has been one that should not be overlooked. He is the third linebacker in Alabama’s rotation and has played more than people might have noticed. Lately, he has seen an increase in playing time as a result of the injury that linebacker Que Robinson suffered in the LSU game. Campbell is used more now as a hybrid linebacker. In that case, Jefferson comes in at inside linebacker. Thus, he plays a key role and is essential to the defense’s success.
In the last three weeks, Jefferson has recorded 16 tackles. The Memphis native continues to be a valuable asset for the Crimson Tide. He waited his turn and is reaping the benefits as a result. Alabama fans should be pleased to know that Jefferson is developing and continuing to contribute to Alabama’s defensive efforts.
