Lane Kiffen says SEC coaches telling him they don’t want to play in SEC title game

Lane Kiffin watches Ole Miss warmups ahead of LSU game

Ole Miss head coach, Lane Kiffin is not feeling the unique situation the Rebels and other SEC teams could face in a few weeks.

The SEC has multiple teams in the running to make the College Football Playoff. Two of those will have to play in the SEC Championship in Atlanta before the College Football Playoff. It is a possibility the loser of the game will be out of the playoff picture while a team, who did not make the conference title game could be get in.

The winner of the conference championship would get an automatic BYE.

Kiffin feels the risk is too high to play in the conference title game and expressed several SEC coaches feel the same.

“I’ll just kind of give you the feeling from some other coaches that they don’t want to be in it,” Kiffin said. “The risk to get a BYE. Sorry, the reward to get a BYE versus the risk to get knocked out completely. I mean that’s a really big risk just to get a BYE. So, I think it’s ended up being a very unique situation of the way that that system set up there and how you could go to that and get knocked out, and if you don’t go, you’re in.”

Alabama could very much find themselves in this situation.
