Four things Alabama needs to do 2nd Half to beat Auburn in the Iron Bowl

William McLelland - USA Today Sports

Rivalry weekend is underway in college football as Alabama leads Auburn 14-6 at halftime in the Iron Bowl from Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Here’s what the Crimson Tide must do to complete the victory in the 2nd Half:

1. Ball Security:

The Alabama offense must play clean and protect the football after having three offensive drives stalled after two fumbles and an interception in the first half against Auburn.

2. Continue to establish a rhythm in the run game on early on downs:

The Alabama rushing attack is winning the line of scrimmage against Auburn in the first half after rushing for 83 yards on 22 attempts. This is led by quarterback Jalen Milroe’s two first half rushing touchdowns. The Alabama offense must continue this steady approach in the second half by continuing to involve both tailbacks, Jam Miller and Justice Haynes.

3. Find a way to bottle up Auburn RB Jarquez Hunter:

The Alabama defense must find a way to bottle up Auburn running back Jarquez Hunter after rushing for 55 yards on 10 attempts in the first half. The Tide have to make an emphasis to tackle better in the second half.

4. Continue to keep Auburn behind the chains on early downs:

Alabama has held the Auburn offense to just two third down conversions on nine attempts in the first half. The Crimson Tide defense must continue to keep Auburn behind the chains and forcing Tigers QB Payton Thorne into obvious third and long passing situations.
