ESPN personality details how Alabama would still get into 12-team CFP even with SMU loss

Jeff Hanisch - USA Today Sports

Alabama fans are locked into the most simple scenario for the Crimson Tide to be in the 12-team College Football Playoff on Selection Sunday.

Alabama needs Southern Methodist University to defeat Clemson in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game this weekend to potentially face Notre Dame in the first round of the playoff. However, is there still a way for the Tide to make the playoff if SMU loses to the Tigers? Pat McAfee and his crew explained on The Pat McAfee Show via ESPN how Alabama would get into the dance, regardless of a SMU loss. The Mustangs would have to be blown out by Clemson for the Tide to still get in.

If SMU loses a close matchup to Clemson, the CFP Committee would take Clemson as the ACC Champion and the Mustangs as the at-large bid for the playoff. This would knock Alabama out of the conversation.

The committee also stated SMU ‘potentially’ still could be out of the playoff with a loss to Clemson and Alabama gets in.
