Former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones will get a big opportunity in the final five games of the NFL regular season as he will be the starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Current starter and former 2021 No. 1 overall pick, Trevor Lawrence, suffered a season ending injury during the team’s 23-20 loss to Houston Texans last Sunday. Lawrence was placed on IR earlier this week by the Jaguars after suffering a concussion which caused him to leave the game.
Jones would take over and finish the game completing 20-of-23 passes for 235 passing yards and two touchdowns. On the season, Jones has appeared in a total of five games, including two starts and has a season total of 512 passing yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions, while completing 62% of his passes.
After beginning his career as a first round pick to the New England Patriots, Jones was ultimately dealt to the Jaguars this past offseason after back-to-back lack luster seasons with below average Patriot rosters.
Jones did see success early on in his career as he led the Patriots to a 10-7 record and a playoff birth during his rookie season passing for 3,801 yards and 22 touchdowns.
He will now have the remaining weeks of the season to prove to another franchise that he is capable of being a full-time starter again.
