Alabama football’s tight end, Danny Lewis Jr. recently decided to back off plans to enter the transfer portal.
Lewis is returning to Tuscaloosa with the opportunity to earn more playing time with CJ Dippre and Robbie Ouzts graduating.
Kalen DeBoer revealed potiential playing time played a role in Lewis’ decisions to return on Thursday.
“We graduated a lot of snaps at tight end with C.J. and Robbie and so you know the opportunity is really strong here for the tight end position and he certainly being an upperclassman, I think he understood that and kind of kind of processed that a little bit more,” DeBoer said. “And you know part of the reason actually the reason why I think he really decided to come back, he’s got a skill set. I think when you take the size also added into it of some range. You know we just got to keep developing it. I do feel like, if there’s probably 10 or 15 kids that have really developed and come along a long way since the first day we stepped on the field this spring, he’d certainly be one of them. And so more reps is going to be something that just helps him become a better football player. He’s pouring into that right now.”
Lewis saw playing time in all 12 games for the Tide this season on offense and special teams.
