Alabama freshman spotted playing wide receiver at bowl practice

Alabama football’s freshman, Jaylen Mbakwe was seen practicing at wide receiver and wearing No. 6 in the Crimson Tide’s latest practice by reporters.

Mbakwe is a former five-star prospect, who played quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back throughout his high school career at Clay-Chalkville High School. He signed with the Tide to play defensive back, and he earned playing time at cornerback this season.

The freshman announced plans to enter the transfer portal earlier this month. He backed off those plans soon after.

Kalen DeBoer addressed the possibility of Mbakwe playing some wide receiver after Mbakwe decided to not leave Tuscaloosa.

“We certainly are short there at wide receiver with injuries and some guys that enter the portal,” DeBoer said. “It’s always been that way. We’ve been open to what he can bring to the table. I think as a freshman coming in, You’re really trying to focus on doing one thing well. This is certainly a time where we can. We can look into that, figure that out. He’s super talented.”

It will be interesting to see if Mbakwe gets any snaps at wide recover in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
