Alabama’s offense will feature some new faces on December 31 in the ReliaQuest Bowl against the Michigan Wolverines.
The player that I will be keeping a close eye on is freshman wide receiver Rico Scott. The former four-star was in the first wide receiver grouping in Alabama’s first bowl practice. The Pennsylvania native has served primarily as a backup this season, but that is subject to change moving forward.
Scott is an all-around athlete at 6-feet tall and 200 pounds. He has great burst and speed in and out of his routes. He has a promising catch radius and is a deep ball threat anytime that he is on the field. As a freshman, Scott has reeled in four receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown. Despite him seeing limited playing time, there is still room to optimistic about Scott and what he brings to the team.
Alabama will likely have five options at wide receiver for the bowl game. The five wide receivers that are expected to see playing time are Ryan Williams, Germie Bernard, Jaren Hamilton, Jaylen Mbakwe, and Scott.
Scott should see several touches against the Wolverines in what could be his ‘coming out’ party in an Alabama uniform. He has the potential to do big things in Kalen DeBoer’s offense along with having the coaching of wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard. I expect Scott to make some big plays heading into the new year.
