Michigan running back Kalel Mullings has made the decision to opt out of the bowl game versus Alabama. Mullings officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday evening.
Mullings was the Wolverines leading rusher this season. He came into the season as the No. 2 back on the roster but eventually assumed the starting role over senior Donovan Edwards. The Massachusetts native had 185 carries for 948 yards and 12 touchdowns. He and Edwards have both played their final games in a Wolverines uniform. Edwards also opted out of the bowl game.
Alabama will have now have to prepare to face a different running back in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Tuesday afternoon. Mullings and Edwards combined to have 93.4% of the touches among running backs on the roster. It will be interesting to see who the Wolverines choose to replace the two-headed monster that coexisted in Ann Arbor this season. Needless to say, Alabama will not be tasked with stopping either Mullings or Edwards. That should be a sigh of relief for Alabama’s defensive assistants as well as defensive coordinator Kane Wommack.
