What other positions could Alabama look to address in the transfer portal?

Alabama has already lost 14 scholarship players to the transfer portal, and there could be more in the coming days. Alabama general manager Courtney Morgan and additional recruiting personnel have already brought in five transfers thus far. Could there be more to come in the foreseeable future? If so, what positions will Alabama look to add talent at?

First and foremost, Alabama has addressed some of its biggest needs in the transfer portal up to this point. The five transfers that are coming in bring experience and proven production in power-four conferences. Wide receiver Isaiah Horton (Miami-FL), interior offensive lineman Kam Dewberry (Texas A&M), linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green (Colorado), cornerback Cam Calhoun (Utah), and Kelby Collins (Florida) will each add depth at their respective positions which could prove to be huge additions for the Crimson Tide.

Where could Alabama look to supplement its roster next? Several positions that stand out to me are offensive tackle, kicker, cornerback, and outside linebacker. Each position that I listed is for a different reason.

Alabama struggled to find a right tackle that could be consistent enough to be a legitimate starter. The coaching staff experimented with redshirt sophomore Elijah Pritchett and redshirt freshman Wilkin Formby. Both of which had their share of ups and downs. With that being the case, it would not surprise me to see the coaching staff bring in an additional offensive tackle for competition if nothing else. Sophomore Kadyn Proctor has solidified himself as the team’s starting left tackle. Could we see a transfer portal addition as the team’s starting right tackle next season?

There was very limited production from the kicker position this season for the Crimson Tide. Graham Nicholson transferred to Alabama from Miami-Ohio. During his senior season with the RedHawks, Nicholson was named the Lou Groza Award winner. He was not given many opportunities this season, however. He converted on 6/8 field goals in 2024, With Nicholson graduating, I would look for Alabama to explore the transfer portal for a potential replacement unless they believe that redshirt freshman Conor Talty can assume the kicking duties.

As things stand, Alabama has seven cornerbacks heading into the 2025 season. That is under the assumption that Domani Jackson will turn pro at seasons end. If that is the case, Alabama could look to add one or two cornerbacks. Whether it be for depth or bringing in a proven commodity, it will likely be something that the coaching staff looks into. Cornerback depth is crucial throughout the course of the season and will be for Alabama in 2025.

Lastly, Alabama could take a look at adding an outside linebacker. With Alabama losing outside linebackers Que Robinson and Keanu Koht, there could be room for one outside linebacker. Redshirt freshmen outside linebackers Yhonzae Pierre and Qua Russaw are promising options, but the coaching staff could look to bring in a more vetted option at the position. Regardless, Alabama appears to be in good shape at the position heading into the offseason.

Alabama has options in multiple different areas. The next few days and weeks could give fans a better perspective of how the transfer portal class will shape out and how the coaching staff plans to handle situations pertaining to roster makeup.
