Alabama football has been in constant contact with Derrek Cooper as of late.
Cooper is a 2026 four-star running-back prospect out of Chaminade-Madonna High School in Hollywood, Florida. He is in the conversation to be the countries’ No. 1 running back prospect by the time the 2026 class wraps up.
Alabama hosted Cooper for a visit in October.
“It was a great visit,” Cooper told Touchdown Alabama at the Under Armour All-America Game media day. “Got there to visit, talked to coach (Robert) Gillespie and Coach (Kalen) DeBoer. I got to meet them in person, see their personalities, see if I fit there.”
The junior shared Alabama will ‘100 percent’ get an official visit from him as the Tide’s coaching staff has remained in contact with the four-star and have shown they want him in Tuscaloosa.
“It’s been frequently consistent, like every day I talk to them coaches,” Cooper said when discussing recent contact with Tide. “They really want me. When I got down there, they had my film up.”
Alabama’s offense and the way they use their running backs is another thing Cooper likes about the Tide.
“They use their running backs a lot,” said Cooper. “I think I fit in their offense pretty well, fit in their scheme. They’re definitely one of my top schools.”
A decision for Cooper is likely to come in late July or early August. An unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa in the spring is also possible for Cooper.
The 6-f00t-1, 200-pounder is an explosive running back, who holds a PR of 10.7 in the 100-meter dash. He flashes an ability to be dynamic in the run and pass game.
