Alabama true freshman linebacker to enter transfer portal

Alabama football’s freshman linebacker, Justin Okoronkwo entered the transfer portal merely minutes before the portal closed on Sunday night, per multiple reports.

Players have five days after their team’s bowl game to enter the transfer portal, and the school has two additional days to finalize the paperwork.

Okoronkwo came to Alabama by way of Munich, Germany. He was recruited during the Nick Saban era. The Germany product played primarily special teams and saw limited playing time at inside linebacker as he recorded 14 tackles as a true freshman.

Okoronkwo’s decision leaves Alabama with minimal depth at inside linebacker with Jeremiah Alexander, Sterling Dixon, and Okoronkwo entering the transfer portal. Each were key depth pieces for Alabama’s defense in 2024 and were expected to play similar roles in 2025.

It will be interesting to see if Alabama looks in the transfer portal to add depth at the position.
