Alabama brought in 14 transfers last offseason. Kalen DeBoer, his assistants, and general manager Courtney Morgan did a good job of identifying players that fit the team’s needs and identity. Today, I will assess how the transfer portal haul fared for the Crimson Tide in 2024.
WR Germie Bernard
2024 Stats: 50 receptions, 794 yards, 2 TDs
Alabama’s leading pass catcher from the 2024 season was Washington transfer Germie Bernard. The Nevada native really came into his own as the season progressed. He was an integral part of Alabama’s offense and will continue to be in 2025. Some might argue that Bernard was WR1 over Ryan Williams. Regardless of how he is viewed, he finds a way to make positive contributions to the team’s effort to win. He will be a welcoming presence at wide receiver for Alabama next season.
OC Parker Brailsford
One or the top incoming transfers for the Crimson Tide in 2024 was center Parker Brailsford. The Washington transfer came in with a lot of high expectations. He fulfilled those expectations and was arguably Alabama’s most consistent offensive lineman in 2024. He too will return to the Capstone for his final season. Brailsford will provide leadership and strengthen the offensive line unit for the 2025 season.
Bandit LT Overton
2024 Stats: 42 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 pass deflection, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery
Alabama’s defensive line was not one of the strengths of the team in 2024. However, one player that stood out among the group was Texas A&M transfer LT Overton. The Alabama native seemed to apply a lot of pressure on opposing quarterbacks. He was impactful against the run as well. Needless to say, his decision to return for one more year is one that should benefit the Crimson Tide.
TE Josh Cuevas
2024 Stats: 16 receptions, 218 yards, 1 TD
One of the players that was overshadowed in Alabama’s offense in 2024 was Washington transfer Josh Cuevas. The California native had several promising performances and will likely have even more in 2025. Unless Alabama brings in another tight end in the transfer portal, Cuevas figures to be the team’s starting tight end next season. He will be a valuable target for whoever wins the quarterback battle.
CB Domani Jackson
2024 Stats: 51 tackles, 7 pass deflections, 2 INTs, 1 FF
One of Alabama’s best defenders in 2024 was USC transfer Domani Jackson. The California native was a 13-game starter for the Crimson Tide as a junior. He will be called on to step up even more in 2025 during his senior season as Alabama pushes to earn a berth in the 12-team College Football Playoff.
OT Kadyn Proctor
Whethee you consider him as a transfer or not, Proctor did transfer to Iowa and decided to transfer back to Alabama last spring. The former five-star was an impactful presence for Alabama at the left tackle position in 2025. He made 11 starts for the Crimson Tide and was much better at the position than the season prior. Proctor will likely be one of the top offensive line prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft.
S King Mack
2024 Stats: 14 tackles
One of Alabama’s spring additions last offseason was Penn State transfer King Mack. He was a former four-star recruit out of south Florida. In 2024, he played in all 13 games for the Crimson Tide. He was a player that was expected to be in the mix to play HUSKY in 2025 but elected to re-enter the transfer portal instead of sticking it out.
S Kameron Howard
2024 Stats: 2 tackles
Another spring addition to Alabama’s roster was Charlotte transfer Kameron Howard. In 2024, Howard played in four games for the Crimson Tide. He will return in 2025 and be a key piece in the secondary.
IOL Geno VanDeMark
Alabama brought in a veteran offensive lineman in the spring window last offseason. Michigan State transfer Geno VanDeMark added depth an experience for the Crimson Tide. As a redshirt junior, VanDeMark played in 12 games for Alabama with one start. He played a variety of different positions. He will likely do the same yet again in 2025.
IOL Naquil Betrand
Texas A&M transfer Naquil Betrand was viewed as an experiment to Alabama’s coaching staff. He never panned out and played in just one game for the Crimson Tide. Betrand transferred to Syracuse this offseason.
S Keon Sabb
39 tackles, 4 pass deflections, 2 INTs
Alabama brought in multiple transfer safeties to try and replace Caleb Downs and Jaylen Key. One of those was Michigan transfer Keon Sabb. The New Jersey native made seven starts for the Crimson Tide before suffering a season-ending injury. He will return in 2025 and is expected to be a leader in Alabama’s secondary.
QB Austin Mack
2024 Stats: 2/3, 39 yards, 1 TD
One of the players that Kalen DeBoer brought with him from Washington to Alabama was quarterback Austin Mack. The former four-star threw just three passes for the Crimson Tide in 2024. However, he could be a part of Alabama’s quarterback competition for the 2025 season. He has raw arm talent and showed some promise in Alabama’s A-Day game last spring.
DB DaShawn Jones
2024 Stats: 23 tackles, 2 pass deflections, 1 forced fumble
Wale Forest transfer DaShawn Jones was a valuable addition to Alabama’s defense. At least, he proved to be down the stretch. He will return for his senior season and be the lead candidate to be the starter at HUSKY, which is a safety/cornerback hybrid role in Alabama’s defense.
K Graham Nicholson
53/53 XP, 8/10 FG
The former Lou Groza Award winner came to Tuscaloosa with high expectations. The Miami-Ohio transfer had few opportunities in 2024 for the Crimson Tide. He heads to the NFL following an unexpected season in Tuscaloosa.
