Alabama football announced the hiring of Jason Jones on Friday as an assistant defensive backs coach.

Jones is a former Alabama defensive back and is a native of Tuscaloosa. He previously coached at North Carolina, FAU, Indiana and Ole Miss, spending his entire coaching career in the secondary.

The former Tide DB was a part of the Crimson Tide’s 1999 SEC Championship Team and is excited to be back home.

“The University of Alabama and Tuscaloosa are special places to me,” said Jones. “My coaching career started here as a graduate assistant, and to be able to come home and coach at your alma mater is truly a blessing. I am so thankful to Coach DeBoer for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this great staff, and I am excited to be back. I can’t wait to get to work.”
