The Atlanta Falcons recently interviewed former Alabama defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley for the defensive coordinator opening. Ansley is currently serving as the passing game coordinator for the Green Bay Packers.

Ansley was a member of Alabama’s coaching staff under the direction of former Alabama head coach Nick Saban. He had two separate stints with the Crimson Tide. He was a graduate assistant from 2010-2011. He returned to Tuscaloosa in 2016 and served as the defensive backs coach. Ansley coached players like Marlon Humphrey and Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Following his second stint with the Crimson Tide, Ansley was hired as the Oakland Raiders defensive backs coach. After one season with the Raiders, Ansley was hired as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. He was with the Volunteers from 2019-2020.

In 2021, he joined the Los Angeles Chargers as the team’s defensive backs coach. He spent one season in that role before being promoted to defensive coordinator.

In 2024, he joined the Green Bay Packers coaching staff as the passing game coordinator. Ansley is one of many options that the Falcons will choose from. The Falcons front office has done its due diligence when it comes to hiring the new defensive play-caller. It will be interesting to see where Ansley coaches next season. Will it be Green Bay, Atlanta, or elsewhere?
