Nick Saban joined the The Pivot Podcast this week and was asked if he would coach football again in the future.
Saban retired from coaching more than a year ago after 17 years with the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was a college head coach for more than 25 years with previous stops at LSU, Michigan State and Toledo.
Channing Crowder asked Saban if he would ever coach again during the interview.
“I don’t think so,” Saban answered. “The last year when we lost to Michigan in the playoffs, that was one of the hardest years I ever went through as a coach because we started out really bad and got better as we went because you had kind of a younger team and the quarterback got a lot better. It was just a really, really hard year. Probably didn’t have maybe as good of a staff as some of the ones before. So, I felt like I had to do more and honestly felt at the end of the year like, you gonna kill yourself doing this. I really did feel that way. It wasn’t name, image and likeness. It wasn’t the changes of college football. It wasn’t the players. No issues with any of that. I just really felt like if you keep working like this, you’re going to kill yourself.”
The former Alabama head coach went on to say working on ESPN scratches his itch to be involved in the game of football.
“If you asked me that question, and I wasn’t involved in sports, ESPN Gameday, doing the draft, I’d probably say maybe,” said Saban. “But doing this, I’m still involved in ball, and I like it and it gives me something to do. I don’t think I’d be happy if I didn’t have something to do.”
