Washington Commanders defensive coordinator, Joe Whitt Jr. sent a verbal warning to the Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts ahead of this weekends NFC championship game.

The first year Washington defensive coordinator made it apparent he wants the former Alabama signal caller to be aware of the Commanders intentions to tackle him like a running back. Whitt Jr. didn’t mince words on Thursday when speaking to reporters while discussing his game plan to corral Hurts.

“We’ve had a number of these guys that we’ve had to prepare for,” Whitt Jr. said. “And so, the one thing is, if he’s going to run the ball and if the coordinator makes the decision for him to run the ball, we’re going to treat him like a running back and we’re going to hit him that way. You know so, that’s their decision, if they want to get him hit the way that he gets hit. If they don’t then they’ll keep him in the pocket, so that’s what we’re going to do.”

These comments come after seeing Hurts rush for 70 total yards, including a 44-yard touchdown run against the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round last Sunday.
