Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer and multiple assistant coaches have hit the recruiting trail these past two weeks. DeBoer made the trek to south Georgia on Tuesday for an in-home visit with 2026 four-star athlete Heze Kent. Kent recently placed Alabama as one of five finalists to land his commitment.
Kent did not include Alabama in his top 10 last June. However, the Alabama coaching staff and Kent have remained in touch. Ultimately, the communication has been enough for Kent to include Alabama in the mix.
It does not take much for college coaches to be intrigued by Kent. After all, he stands at 6-foot-7 and 285 pounds and stars in two sports — football and basketball. As a junior, Kent reeled in 41 receptions for 983 yards and eight touchdowns. Through the first 17 games of his junior year in basketball, Kent has averaged 15.7 points per game, 13.9 rebounds per game, and 1.6 assists per game. There is a lot to like about the two-sport athlete. The size, athleticism, and skillset certainly jump off the page.
Alabama will have its hands full trying to land Kent’s commitment. However, the coaching staff will continue to work on getting him to campus and pushing for his commitment. Several of the schools that Alabama will have to compete with for Kent’s commitment are Florida, Miami, Florida State, and Texas. The Georgia native has taken four visits to Miami and Florida. He has visited Alabama and Florida State one time a piece.
There is not a timetable for when Kent will commit, but Alabama is expected to be in his recruitment for the long run.
