Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver, DeVonta Smith may be on the cusp of making football history this Sunday in Super Bowl LVII.
With a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, the former Alabama standout has the opportunity to join college football hall-of-fame legends Tony Dorsett, Marcus Allen, Charles Woodson, and Reggie Bush as just the fifth player in history to successfully collect a National Championship, Heisman Trophy and NFL Super Bowl. Smith would be the first player to accomplish this feat in a seven-year span.
Smith acknowledged what it would mean and how incredible it would to be to clinch football’s triple crown in his home state of Louisiana, while in a recent interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia reporter, John Clark.
“It means a lot,” Smith said. “Just still setting an example for the kids back at home, the way to go about things. The way to do things, you know, just giving them a vision. Giving them a dream to chase… It’s been amazing, just day in and day out, the work that I put in. Just thinking about all the times when things were really rough and just fighting through it. And just getting through the adversity I’ve encountered. And now, just being here, it’s a blessing.”
Smith has broken the Philadelphia franchise mark for most playoff receiving yards.
