There will be several position battles taking place in Tuscaloosa during the spring. Aside from the quarterback position, right tackle seems to be the most crucial one for fans to monitor.
In recent years, inconsistency has plagued Alabama on the offensive front. In 2024, two players manned the right tackle position — Wilkin Formby and Elijah Pritchett. Both of which had their share of struggles at the position.
Pritchett transferred to Nebraska this offseason. Formby will return for his redshirt sophomore season.
Overall, there is unproven talent at the tackle position aside from Kadyn Proctor. Formby will compete with teammates Olaus Alinen, Arkel Anugwom, and potentially even Jaeden Roberts. Roberts could make the transition from guard to tackle this offseason. Alabama originally recruited Roberts to play the tackle position.
With a new quarterback taking the reins behind center, it is pivotal that Alabama has a promising run blocker and pass protector. In 2024, quarterback Jalen Milroe was unable to operate efficiently oftentimes as a result of poor play at right tackle.
That will need to change in 2025 if Alabama wants a shot at reaching the 12-team College Football Playoff.
