Alabama football’s new offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb is tasked with finding the best fit to be the Crimson Tide’s next starting quarterback.

This is not the first time the veteran offensive coordinator has been faced with this task. He took a look back at when Washington had a quarterback battle in 2022. Michael Penix came out on top in the battle, but it was a close one, per Grubb.

Grubb used the battle to shine a light on how he will look at the Tide’s three-way quarterback battle during an interview with Yea Alabama.

“So we had three players that we thought needed to really be vetted out completely.” Grubb said. “And so in ’22 in the spring, I let the guys know up front that we would do it the right way. We’re trying to find out who the best quarterback is for the University of Washington, and there’s going to be no favoritism. It’s going to be an open door as far as statistics and breakdown of how we do it. You will not find anybody that’s going to put more detailed time or effort into giving objective information back to the quarterback room so they understand exactly where I’m at and why I’m thinking the things that I’m thinking.”

Ty Simpson, Austin Mack and Keelon Russell are currently in the running to be Alabama’s next QB1.
