Alabama 5-star freshman enrollee named Texas 6A Offensive Player of the Year

Five-star quarterback and Alabama freshman Keelon Russell was named the 6A Offensive Player of the Year in the state of Texas. He was recognized by Blue Bell and the Texas Sports Writer Association.

This award should not come as much of a surprise considering the fact that Russell won the 2024 Gatorade National Player of the Year. He had a stellar senior season at Duncanville High School.

Over the course of his high school career, Russell led the Panthers to back-to-back state championships during his sophomore and junior season. He displayed his talents at a high level on a week-in, week-out basis.

As a senior, Russell passed for 4,177 yards and 55 touchdowns. He threw just four interceptions. In addition, he ran for 321 yards and three touchdowns.

Russell signed with Alabama in December and is currently an early enrollee at the university. He will have a strong chance of winning the starting job at quarterback this offseason given his leadership qualities and the type of player that he is. Alabama fans should be excited to see what Russell does in an Alabama uniform.
