Why Richard Young can be a difference maker in Alabama’s offense in 2025

Alabama will return four running backs from the 2024 season. The two that saw the bulk of the carries last season are Jam Miller and Richard Young. While Miller is the presumed starter for 2025, there is reason to believe that Young can be a difference maker in Alabama’s offense.

The former five-star has patiently waited for his turn in Alabama’s backfield. The Florida native has been sparingly used over the course of his first three seasons in Tuscaloosa. His role should see a sizable increase in 2025, however.

When Young was given opportunities last season, he made the most of them. He finished the season with 27 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns. His best game of the season came against Missouri where he had three carries for 63 yards.

With Alabama looking for a boost at the running back position, Young is a potential game changer that the coaching staff will look toward. He is a powerful ball carrier at 5-foot-11 and 216 pounds. Young runs with great burst and strength. He is a valuable option for Alabama to have in 2025.

I would anticipate Young seeing more snaps as a redshirt sophomore. He is too talented of a tailback to not see the field in meaningful playing time.
