The NFL Combine started earlier this week in Indianapolis. Former Alabama players will take center stage as they go through media day, workouts, and meetings with NFL teams. On Tuesday, former Alabama linebacker Que Robinson was asked about which freshman he would bet on. He had an intriguing answer for the media.

“I’m gonna be a little abstract and I’m gonna say probably, shit, Jaylen Mbakwe,” Robinson said, “I just like the way he approached everything when I was there, man. He approached it like a pro. Obviously, he didn’t see a lot of the field, but when he was on the field he made the best of his opportunities.”

Mbakwe saw action in 12 games for the Crimson Tide last season. He recorded 15 tackles, two pass deflections, and one interception. The Alabama native put in work at cornerback, wide receiver, and on special teams in 2024. He has the skillset and potential to be a very special player for Alabama in the future. During the offseason, Mbakwe will likely see work at both wide receiver and cornerback. After the spring, he and the coaching staff will need to make a decision on what he position he wants to play moving forward.

Needless to say, Mbakwe is a raw talent. He helped carry his high school to a Class 6A state championship during his senior season. Despite playing quarterback as a senior, he transitioned to cornerback as a true freshman in college. Mbakwe is equipped to contribute to the team’s success, and that will be vital for him as he tries to establish a role on the team for the 2025 season.
