Alabama tight end Robbie Ouzts had an informal meeting earlier this week at the NFL Combine with the New England Patriots. The news was reported by Alex Barth of 98.5 The Sports Hub.
Ouzts is an intriguing prospect to say the least. The native of Rock Hill, South Carolina signed with Alabama out of high school as a traditional tight end. Over the course of his college career, he slowly evolved into more of a traditional fullback instead.
Ouzts is listed at 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds. In his final two seasons in Tuscaloosa, he was used primarily as a blocker. He lined up in the backfield oftentimes as more of a h-back or fullback. His role was primarily to serve as a lead blocker or pitch in as an in-line blocker from time to time.
Given Ouzts’ skillset, he projects to play the fullback position at the next level. Contrary to popular belief, it could be the best decision for his future. NFL teams sparingly use fullbacks nowadays. However, there are a few organizations that would welcome the thought of having a fullback in their offense. In this case, the Patriots have shown interest in Ouzts.
