Where does Kelby Collins fit in on Alabama’s veteran defensive line?

During the offseason, Alabama added multiple transfers on the defensive side of the ball. One of which was Florida transfer defensive lineman Kelby Collins.

With Collins coming in and multiple starters returning, where does Collins fit in the scheme of things for the Crimson Tide in 2025?

Alabama has two starters returning up front — seniors Tim Keenan III and LT Overton. Keenan III will start at nose guard while Overton will start at Bandit.

Collins fits the mold of a defensive end (Bandit) but has the traits needed to play defensive tackle as well. Thus, he becomes more valuable for Alabama’s defense.

With there being an open competition at defensive tackle, Collins has the opportunity to create a lot of value for himself this spring. Regardless of where Collins lines up, he figures to be in the rotation of linemen that see meaningful playing time during the 2025 season.

Collins is listed at 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds. That is the ideal size for Collins as he looks to establish himself in the SWARM defense. I believe that he will be used interchangeably at defensive tackle and defensive end (Bandit) in 2025.

If that is the case, it creates more depth on defense and will allow Collins to have more opportunities to see the field. A win-win for both parties involved.
