Alabama football’s new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb wants the Crimson Tide to attack defenses through the air and on the ground.

Grubb’s last collegiate coaching stop proved he can operate a balanced offense with Michael Penix throwing for 4,903 yards and Dijon Johnson rushing for 1,195 yards at Washington during the 2023 season.

The veteran coordinator wants the run game to be a vital part of the Tide’s attack, and he made it clear on Wednesday during his media availability.

“We’ve only had two practices with no pads, so a little tough to assess that, but I think just a commitment to that In general,” Grubb said. “The mentality here at Alabama, I think, you know, bodes well for that. I think that guys want to be physical type of football players. So for us, we’re pretty wide as far as the type of runs that we run, just like we always have been. You’re going to see inside, outside zone, counter, power, pin. pull, fly, sweep, all the stuff we’ve always done. So, I don’t think anything from that standpoint will change. But I think that guys know that to win the late games and the playoffs and things like that, there has to be a mindset and demeanor that you got to be able to run the football.”

Alabama returns two running backs with meaningful experience from last season in Jam Miller and Richard Young. The Crimson Tide added Dre’Lyn Washington from the transfer portal and signed AK Dear as their only running back signee. They also return Daniel Hill and Kevin Riley.
