Alabama defensive lineman LT Overton was asked about Keon Keeley following Friday’s spring practice. Overton seemed to be impressed with the progress that Keeley has continued to make since he arrived on campus.
“Out of my three years of playing in college football, I haven’t seen a guy like Keon (Keeley) continue to make jumps year after year. He’s got a great mindset, but at the end of the day, we’re at Alabama.”
Keeley has been the topic of conversation since he stepped foot on campus in 2023. The Florida native has been placed in the spotlight and will continue to be in it for the course of his college career.
Thus far, Keeley has not lived up to his potential. A large part of that stems from the fact that he has played very sparingly in the past two seasons. In fact, Keeley has played in just five games.
The coaching staff has done its due diligence in helping Keeley develop at multiple positions and become acclimated to Kane Wommack’s SWARM defense.
The time has come for Keeley to step up and make an impact. He worked at both defensive tackle and defensive end (Bandit) last season. His upside is increasingly high. The question is: Can Keeley fully tap into his potential this spring and become a key piece of Alabama’s defense in 2025? That question will be answered sooner than later.
