Cam Calhoun has managed to make an impact during his short time in Tuscaloosa as a new member of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s secondary.
Calhoun transferred from Utah to Alabama at the end of the 2024 season. He played in 11 games with the Utes in 2024, and he finished the season with 21 total tackles and was fourth in the Big 12 with nine pass breakups.
Alabama’s defensive coordinator feels Calhoun adds juiced to a laid-back Tide secondary.
“He has a maturity about him,” Wommack said. “You can tell this dude’s been a seasoned player at a place that has established itself as one of the great defenses year in and year out at Utah. It’s not an easy task to get on the field with that program, and he was and was a starter. It was awesome to be able to gain that experience from him. He’s from Cincinnati. Cincinnati guys, if you’ve ever recruited that area, they got a little. Got a little something to him, you know what I mean? He plays with a good energy, plays with a mindset of attacking the ball and brings some juice to our group. We’re a relatively quiet secondary for the most part. It’s kind of nice to have another guy out there that plays up in people’s faces.”
The Tide’s returning safety, Bray Hubbard has also taken notice of the energy Calhoun brings during spring practice.
“He’s something else,” said Hubbard. “A great guy, though. Brings a lot of energy in the locker room. On the field, he’s all over the place. Not in a bad way. He’s just always smiling, always talking. He’s a great player. He’s had a really good first week.”
Calhoun is expected to challenge for playing time in a loaded secondary.
