The Washington Commanders decided to part ways with former Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen in February. On March 7, the Commanders officially released Allen.
The Virginia native is sure to have a number of suitors when free agency opens up on Monday, March 10th.
Touchdown Alabama lists five ideal landing spots for Allen.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
It is no secret that the Chiefs have been buyers over the years. The organization has brought in some key players along the defensive front over the years including Frank Clark, Jarran Reed, and Justin Houston.
With Allen on the market, the Chiefs might make a move for the two-time Pro Bowler. Allen would make a lot of sense for the Chiefs given the fact that they are likely going to lose multiple defensive linemen in free agency.
2. Miami Dolphins
Another team that has brought in experienced defensive linemen in the past is the Dolphins. Calais Campbell and Bradley Chubb are just two players the organization has brought in over the course of the last few seasons.
Defensive ends Da’shawn Hand and Emmanuel Ogbah are set to enter free agency. Campbell is as well. Could Allen be heading to South beach? It seems like a good move for both parties.
3. Cincinnati Bengals
The offseason has not been kind for the Bengals defense. Defensive ends Sam Hubbard and Trey Hendrickson will not return to the team in 2025. Hubbard retired, and Hendrickson requested a trade.
In addition, defensive linemen BJ Hill and Joseph Ossai are pending free agents. The Bengals could use a presence like Allen along the defensive line. He makes a lot of sense for the Bengals.
4. Dallas Cowboys
Over the years, the Cowboys have struggled to keep a healthy rotation of defensive linemen. Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence is one of many that have missed significant time. He is set to be a free agent this offseason.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is eager to put a good product on the field. Given the recent struggles, it would make sense to add a proven veteran like Allen.
5. Los Angeles Rams
The Rams lost arguably the best interior defensive lineman of all-time following the 2023 season. Since then, the Rams have placed a priority to try and replace the future Hall-of-Famer.
The Rams have some promising options up front with second-year guys Jared Verse and Braden Fiske. It would be greatly beneficial for their development and to the team’s success if they sign Allen in free agency.
