LT Overton impressed by transition one veteran has made: “He’s 10x faster”

The Crimson Tide players and coaches work during practice Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024. Alabama defensive lineman Jah-Marien Latham (20) moves between turns in a drill.

Alabama defensive lineman LT Overton seemed pleased when asked about the progress that teammate Jah-Marien Latham has made this offseason.

“Man, he’s like 10x faster,” Overton said, “Zebbo (Jah-Marien Latham) he’s taking his weight loss to another level.”

During the offseason, there were reports that Latham would be changing positions. In 2024, he played the Bandit role in Alabama’s defense which is essentially your prototypical defensive end.

Now, Latham will play the WOLF position which is a blend of defensive end and outside linebacker.

Latham is entering his sixth and final season in Tuscaloosa. The Alabama native has played in 44 games since joining the Crimson Tide. During that time, he has recorded 42 tackles, four tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks.

With Alabama being content with its depth at Bandit, they felt the need to move Latham to WOLF — a position with lesser depth.

It will be interesting to see what type of role Latham carved out in 2025 and how his transition continues to go at the position.
