What type of role will Jah-Marien Latham play on Alabama’s defense?

Alabama DL Jah-Marien Latham (#20) working the sled at Crimson Tide's fall camp practice.

Sixth-year senior Jah-Marien Latham is currently making the transition from the Bandit position to the WOLF position this offseason. The Alabama native has lost weight and now fits the mold of what Alabama is looking for at the position.

The big question is: Where does Latham fit into the WOLF rotation and on Alabama’s defense heading into 2025?

Last week, Alabama senior LT Overton noted that Latham looked like he was “10x faster.” He also indicated that Latham has taken his weight loss to a different level.

The WOLF position has some depth with guys like Qua Russaw, Yhonzae Pierre, Noah Carter, and Justin Hill at the position. However, there is not a lot of experience. That is where Latham comes into play.

The Alabama native has been a rotational defensive lineman for the Crimson Tide over the last several years. Given his knowledge of the defense and veteran presence, it would be surprising to see him not see meaningful snaps in 2025.

Latham has a different frame, so it will take some time for him to adjust. However, the expectation is that Latham will be an impact player on Alabama’s defense during the 2025 season.
