Jalen Milroe gives thoughts on Alabama quarterback competition as spring practice gets underway

Alabama Quarterback Ty Simpson (15) hands off the ball to Alabama Running Back Kevin Riley (28) during practice at Thomas-Drew Practice Fields in Tuscaloosa, AL on Tuesday, Mar 18, 2025.

Alabama quarterback, Jalen Milroe is excited about the future under center in Tuscaloosa as he prepares to take his talents to the NFL.

Milroe put together a solid performance both running and throwing in front of NFL scouts at Alabama’s Pro Day on Wednesday. This showcase comes after Milroe declared for the draft after spending two seasons as a starter in Tuscaloosa. In those two seasons, Milroe shared a quarterback room with talented reserves Ty Simpson and Austin Mack.

Following his Pro Day, Milroe met with media reporters and commented on the state of Alabama’s quarterback situation as he transitions to the next level.

“I spent a lot of time with Austin (Mack) and Ty (Simpson) and one thing for certain is they’re very talented,” Milroe said. “And they all have unique talents that make them very special and how they approach the field. One thing that is for certain is I’m behind both of them through this process. They’re all great quarterbacks. I know they’ve got a bright future in front of them. They’re around a great coaching staff, around a lot of people that care about them. And so, where they’re at today and where they’re gonna be at in the future is gonna be even better because of the people that they have around them. And they have a great support system around them that’s gonna uplift them so that they can best version of themselves.”

Milroe also raved about prized five-star true freshman quarterback, Keelon Russell. Russell and Milroe are both Texas natives and have talked on several occasions during Russell’s visit to Tuscaloosa.

“Keelon (Russell), he has a bright future ahead of him,” Milroe said. “He’s from the state of Texas. He’s from a state where everything is about competing and being the best version of yourself. He has a bright future. I know he’s gonna keep on getting better and keep grinding. Like I mentioned, the knowledge in that room, you have guys that’s going to be a senior, junior and now a freshman. It’s going to be so much knowledge in that room that’s ahead of him that he can soak. And he’s also gonna have a play caller in coach (Ryan) Grubb that has so much knowledge. So that room is gonna continue get better and I’m excited to see how they look.”

With Milroe now preparing for NFL defenses on Sundays, it’ll be interesting to see how the Alabama quarterback room comes along the rest of this offseason as the Tide are set to announce a new starter for the 2025 season.
