Kalen DeBoer believes one position group is coming along better in 2025

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer met with the media on Thursday afternoon. When asked about a particular position group that has stood out to him this spring, DeBoer made sure to point out one group in particular.

“I think the group that is coming along and different than what we had last year is the receiving core,” DeBoer said, “I know some of those guys are the same guys, but I think the depth of that group is certainly evident.”

DeBoer and the rest of the Alabama coaching staff placed a priority on the wide receiver position this offseason via the transfer portal and the high school ranks. The Crimson Tide signed two four-star wide receivers (Lotzeir Brooks and Derek Meadows) along with Miami transfer Isaiah Horton.

In addition, multiple wide receivers chose to return from a season ago including Ryan Williams, Germie Bernard, Cole Adams, Rico Scott, and Jalen Hale.

While Alabama lost six wide receivers to the transfer portal, there is good reason to believe that this year’s receiving core has more depth and talent. The versatility and athleticism in the room is what stands out the most. The explosiveness and playmaking ability should be among some of the best receiving cores in college football during the 2025 season.

During their time together at Washington, DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb prioritized getting the ball in their playmakers hands. I expect the same to be the case in 2025 given the amount of talent and depth that Alabama has at the wide receiver position.
