Kalen DeBoer feels defensive back will quickly fit into Alabama secondary when he enrolls

Alabama has one cornerback from the 2025 recruiting class that is not an early enrollee. That is Mater Dei’s Chuck McDonald.

On Thursday, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer spoke about McDonald and his potential fit in Alabama’s secondary for the 2025 season.

“He is going to come in and fit right in with the group because he brings length and that’s the thing that just jumps out at you,” DeBoer said, “Our length in the secondary changed a lot and Chuck will come add to that.”

McDonald was regarded as a four-star prospect coming out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. He is listed at 6-feet tall and 195 pounds.

Given Alabama’s depth in the secondary, it might seem difficult from the outside to visualize McDonald seeing the field early on. However, DeBoer believes that McDonald is poised to be an impactful presence in Alabama’s secondary as a true freshman.

“He comes from a great program, a lot of experience playing at a high level. I think that transition for a guy like Chuck it’s shown through the guys that have come out of great programs in the past, Mater Dei in particular,” DeBoer said, “He’s going to come in and do his thing.”

It will be interesting to see how McDonald fits in Alabama’s secondary as a true freshman, but DeBoer and the coaching staff believe that he can be an impactful player during the 2025 season.
