During the 2024 season, Alabama offensive tackle Wilkin Formby had his share of struggles. He was oftentimes criticized by the Alabama fanbase for his performance on the field.
Formby spoke with the media on Tuesday about how he chose to deal with the criticism.
“We got a passionate fanbase and it’s a big role to be playing for the Crimson Tide. That comes with a lot,” Formby said, “It’s just passionate fans, but I need to really do better for myself.”
Formby played in nine games in 2024 and made two starts for the Crimson Tide. The game that resonates with a large part of Alabama fans is the USF game. A long touchdown run by quarterback Jalen Milroe was negated by a holding penalty called on Formby.
Formby spoke about an crucial aspect of his performance that is oftentimes overlooked.
“I think I just had to get some of the nerves out. People don’t realize when you’re in front of 100,000 people sometimes it’s a little stressful,” Formby said, “The experience helped a lot. Just becoming confident.”
The Tuscaloosa native is expected to be in the mix to start at right tackle for Alabama in the fall. It seems like the redshirt sophomore is taking past experiences and using them to better his growth and development for the future. It will certainly be interesting to see what type of role Formby has for the Crimson Tide in 2025.
