Alabama football is set to host its second scrimmage of the spring Friday in Tuscaloosa.
Here are some headlines to follow ahead of the scrimmage:
Separation in quarterback competition
Is there any separation in Alabama’s quarterback competition? All signs point to it being so at the moment, but this narrative could be impacted by the outcome of Alabama football’s next scrimmage. A big day by Ty Simpson would only further push the current narrative he is the expected starter at least for the moment. If Austin Mack or Keelon Russell manage to outshine one another other and Ty Simpson, the competition would appear to be just as wide open as it did before spring football kicked off in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama kicker Conor Talty continuing big spring
Conor Talty was perfect on kicks in Alabama’s first scrimmage. He took care of all of the Crimson Tide’s kickoff duties during the 2024 season. He is now stepping up as the Tide’s placekicker with Graham Nicholson taking his talents to the NFL.
“Specialists got some times that they got in the opportunities to get their kicks in,” DeBoer said after Alabama’s first scrimmage. “Got both of them, especially (Conor) Talty getting in there, some field-goal opportunities. He made all his kicks, PATs, did a nice job, which is an important part of the game. You kind of talk about offense and defense a lot. You forget about that part. It’s critical, especially in the big moments.”
Offensive weapon making plays
Isaiah Horton was a stand out in Alabama football’s first scrimmage, reportedly making some impressive catches. Will another emerging offensive weapon stand out in scrimmage No. 2? Jam Miller and Richard Young are expected to lead the way out of the backfield for the Tide next season with Dre Washington serving as a change of pace back. Alabama’s wide receiver room has opportunities for a few new faces to make some noise. Rico Scott and Lotzeir Brooks are a couple of young wide receivers, who have received rave reviews this offseason.
Depth in secondary
Things are trending in a good direction for Alabama football in the secondary. This group is expected to be deep with a great mixture of depth and young potentiation. Alabama currently has multiple defensive backs on their roster, who have started multiple college football games. It wouldn’t be a surprise if there was a buzz around multiple defensive backs when this scrimmage wraps up.
