Alabama football’s head coach Kalen DeBoer is encouraged by the potential return of defensive back, Keon Sabb.
Sabb was an immediate impact player in the Crimson Tide’s secondary last season after transferring from Michigan. He appeared in seven games and reeled in two interceptions, four pass deflections and 34 tackles before being ruled out for the season with a broken foot.
Since his injury, Sabb has been working relentlessly in rehab to return to the Alabama secondary for his senior campaign. This effort has left DeBoer encouraged as the veteran safety nears his return.
“First of all, Keon (Sabb), just continuing to get good feedback and reports,” DeBoer said Friday following the Crimson Tide’s second scrimmage. “It’s been super positive. Even today, another positive report, probably as positive as we’ve had. We expected that, but we’re excited for him to get going and keep taking those steps to keep going and get to those benchmarks.”
DeBoer then went on to compliment Sabb on the fight and mental toughness he has shown while battling injury during his path to recovery.
“It was quite an injury he was coming back from,” DeBoer said. “The fight, I’m never going to question that because last Fall, what he worked through and the way he sacrificed himself, the Tennessee game in particular, and the two-game stretch leading up to it. He’s got a lot of fight, and people respect him and I do too.”
Sabb’s expected return will be vital this season as Alabama looks to form one of the best defensive backfields in college football.
