Jalaythan Mayfield reported an offer from Alabama football Friday after visiting the Crimson Tide.
Mayfield is a product of Lincolnton High School in Lincolnton, North Carolina. He holds previous offers from North Carolina, Ohio State, Tennessee and multiple other programs. Multiple recruiting sites consider him to be a four-star prospect at the moment.
The junior feels his latest offer from Alabama marks a significant moment in his recruitment.
“Receiving an offer from Alabama is a big deal to me considering that they are known for producing great linebackers and putting them in the NFL,” Mayfield said.
Alabama has developed talent at multiple positions over the last decade or so. Linebacker is one of those positions. Henry To’oto’o and Christian Harris are the two latest examples with Jihaad Campbell set to show the Alabama standard of development is still alive and well with him projected to be a first-round pick.
“I love what the program is all about which is winning and development,” Mayfield told Touchdown Alabama. “That’s great to hear for me.”
At 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds, Mayfield takes great angles in pursuit of the football with a great feel for hitting gaps. The North Carolina product is also efficient at taking on blocks and getting to ball carriers.
The four-star finished the 2024 season with 109 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and five total touchdowns.
Mayfield feels the way he ‘violently attacks the ball’ is among his biggest strengths at the moment.
