Kalen DeBoer wants to see Alabama running backs improve in major area

Kalen DeBoer wants to see Alabama football’s running backs continue to improve in multiple areas.

One of those areas is making plays when the circumstances are not perfect. DeBoer feels this is an inevitable part of the game and there are going to be times when blocking assignments are not going to be executed perfectly. If the Tide’s running backs are able to make plays in these situations, DeBoer thinks the Alabama offense would benefit from it in a major way.

“I think as a core, as a group, they can all try to do just if they can get us a little bit more when maybe the perfect blocking isn’t in place, which is going to happen when you’re playing an SEC game in particular,” DeBoer said after Alabama’s second scrimmage. “It’s hard to block those dudes. You got to make some things happen.”

The Alabama head coach also wants his running back room to remain hungry and fight for extra yards.

“Want to see the whole group continue to improve in yards after contact, making people miss out in space and not letting that first guy bring you down,” said DeBoer.

Alabama football is closing in on the end of spring practice with A-Day set to take place on April 12.

Tide fans will be able to get a glimpse of where Alabama’s run game is at the moment when the Tide has its open practice on A-Day.
